Hangin' with the Girls

A day or two after Hurricane Charley devastated Sanibel Island on Friday, August 13, 2004, a message board Best of Sanibel Captiva was formed to keep people informed on what was going on. Since then it has become a board where people can discover Sanibel and meet others who are Sanibel Lovers. It was through this board that I have met many of my Sanibel friends--Tink, Tootie, Gary, Bonnie, Cheryl, Kim, Fran and the list goes on and on. Last fall several of us got together for a "pub crawl". Now when some of our out of town friends visit, we try to get together for a crawl. Today was such a day. Fran is here for her yearly visit and Kim is also in town from out of state so Tink and I met up with them today for some lunch, adult beverages and girl talk.

We were slated to start with lunch at the Sanibel Cafe which is owned and managed by friends Richard and Bonnie. Unfortunately the mast of a sail boat a lot of miles away in Matlacha Pass "came in contact with the main electrical transmission line" and wiped out the power on Sanibel, Captiva and Pine Island for a couple of hours. The power had just returned as we arrived at the Cafe but they had decided to close up. So, we headed to Jerry's which has their own generator.

After lunch we decided to head to the West Wind Pool Bar.
We ordered yummy Pina Coladas and Mango Margaritas.
We settled in with our drinks but pretty soon the slapping and itching began. The No See Um's had hit! So, we gulped down our yummy drinks and headed to Biddle's which was air conditioned and bug free.

We all had a great afternoon of just talking, laughing and getting to know each other better. And of course blogging!

I still can't believe it is hot and there are bugs. Is it because of the sand? When it is hot here you can't find a bug. Sorry you couldn't sit at the beach and enjoy the sun, but it sounds like you had a great day anyhow. (When complaining about the bugs remember I had 5 below this morning!).

Hey count me in as one of your BOSC peeps! You and I actually talked about being Northern neighbors on BOSC. I am bean on the BOSC forum, one of the early members. Just not as talkative then!
