I Made Me a Workbench.

So, I had these saw horses, boards from an old bedframe, old pieces of wood and cement blocks just sitting around taking up space. So, I decided to build me a workbench. This way all my gardening stuff isn't locked away in the shed when I want it but yet is still under cover. I may find that some of the stuff needs to go back in the shed but for now, we will just wait and see.

This was the back patio area which is covered.  Karen had hoped to make this a cute little area with a table and chairs etc but I found that all it was doing was collecting stuff like ladders, saw horses, wood, dollies etc. I felt I could better use the space--at least for now.  The cute little table and chairs may come at a later date. We will see.

So I got to  work today and this is what I came up with.  Not very pretty but a lot more useful and handy.

This gives you an idea of what it looks like with the garden

Some of you know my love for orchids. I am NOT an expert on them and don't even know the names of most of them.  All I know is I love orchids and I have really missed them since moving here. I read up on growing them here outdoors and it seems that is just might be possible.  So I bought 3 yesterday--$7 a piece so no big loss if they don't make it  I repotted them and hung them under the carport awning near my office window so I can look out and enjoy them.

Oh, and I warned you that my flower garden would probably change from day to day and it is already.  Yesterday I added 3 lavender plants. I must have picked the right flowers because the hummingbirds and butterflies have decided that they really like it back there.  Today I'm going to look for some plants that do well in the shade and put them under the Tangelo tree which right now is just a barren dirt patch. I've pretty much decided that I am going to have a potted plant garden rather than planting them in the ground. And I will probably get some stone and spread it around then place the plants on them.  It should look a lot better than the dirt!  But that will come in time.  Stay tuned.

Getting better and better! I have an old door and making a gardening bench with sawhorses has been on my to-do list for two summers. You beat me to it!

Go, you! I love repurposing things, and you totally did that.

I am absolutely enjoying watching your gardens come together. It's so inspiring to me!

The gardening bug is contagious, isn't it?So relaxing, too.Your lavender should grow great in your climate.Too hot and humid here.

The potted plants is probably a better idea anyhow. That way you can move things if you find they need more sun/shade plus if something dies it's easy to refill. Stone would look nice under the pots...all in good time. :) You're working so hard on it.
