When I checked, I realized that it had been a month. Wow, where does time go when you are having fun? Or in my case, doing nothing? LOL. I've been doing a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I'm still a Kitty Socializer at Petco every Wednesday from 10-2. Since the Wildlife Rehab place is too far away, I opted to turn my volunteer application in to the local Pet Smart which had a no kill dog and cat rescue and adoption organization. Actually I turned my application in twice and never heard anything back. I'm 82 years old." Well, now he has to change it to 83! Last Friday, August 10th was his birthday. This is the first time that we have celebrated his birthday with Karen's family.
First of all we went to his favorite restaurant, Casa de Pico. We discovered the Snowbirdhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06893874233609147714noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7521121518861112021.post-26026375548449900072012-08-06T16:00:00.002-04:002012-08-06T16:00:15.399-04:00Back to the Zoo
I am so glad that we got a zoo membership. This means we can go anytime the spirit moves us--and it is only 20 minutes from home. Sometimes, when we lived on Sanibel, it took me almost that much time to get off island! Also, Hubby gets bored quite easily and loves to go to the zoo. His frequent comment while we are there is "This is a really nice park."

I've been keeping busy with family, garden and Olympics. One day I got my bored hubby out of the house and we went to Old Town to walk around. We had lunch and then just wandered through the shops and even a cemetery.

A glass of Cab, easy listening music on Pandora and lots of birds coming to visit. Thought you might like to see some pictures.
It was all very quiet and calming. And then--the parrots came. We discovered a wonderful nursery and a winery before heading to Old Town Temecula for dinner. When we were at the nursery, I found a little statue I really loved but didn't get it. So today, after all the work I've done in my little garden, I decided it was time to go get that statue. Well, it's not quite like a Sanibel Paradise but it is getting a lot better than it was. It was back to Home Depot today. So, I decided to build me a workbench. This way all my gardening stuff isn't locked away in the shed when I want it but yet is still under cover. I may find that some of the stuff needs to go back in the shed but for now, we will just wait and see.

I have put out a couple of bird feeders and hummingbird feeders and a birdbath. I especially like the Hummingbirds as we didn't have those in Sanibel or in Findlay. There are hundreds of them here and several different kinds. Trying to get a picture of them is something else though! The first place I headed to was IKEA. We had been there when we first arrived here but at that time I didn't have a trailer yet and had no idea what I wanted. So this time, I just took my time and wandered through the store. And what a store it is!! I always wanted to go back so today we decided to go exploring. I had also been looking into lodging in the area and had stumbled on the Laguna Mountain Lodge. It looked rustic but comfortable. We went to Karen's late in the day where we all piled into their van and drove to Santee which is the next town over. We paid $5 for parking and got the last paid spot. Yesterday, Karen and the kids, and Chuck and I headed for the San Diego County Fair. I haven't been to a county fair is years! The last one I went to was the Hancock County Fair in Findlay, Ohio. When we were on our tour the other day, I bought a book called Walking San Diego; Where to Go to Get Away From It All. I was looking through it today and came across a walk we had already done with Karen and the kids when we first got here. So, yesterday, I decided that it was time to start enjoying the sites around my new home. One thing I always wanted to do when we would visit here was take the Old Town Trolley Tour of the city. So yesterday, Chuck and I headed to Old Town where we picked up our pre-ordered tickets and boarded the Trolley.

We went with them one day just after we arrived in California. The city of La Mesa, where Karen lives, is celebrating their 100th birthday this summer and one of the activities is a geocaching challenge. Check it out here. La Mesa Geocache Challenge

When we bought this trailer, we knew that the kitchen would probably be the biggest job. It was old. It was worn. It was DIRTY!
Most of the cupboards and drawers were chipped and in horrible need of repair. So we took all of the drawers and the doors back to Karen's where Michael worked on them for several weeks. When he returned them, I was totally amazed. First off, we went to Home Depot to get some paint for the kitchen. That way, when the mood strikes me, I will have it! Then I headed to the garden department where I picked up some bird seed for my feeder and some red geraniums. I have found that for some reason, geraniums grow like crazy out here.

There are lots of things I want to do or need to do but things keep getting in the way--ie: Yesterday morning our gas counter top range started "clicking".
