Ruby Tuesday-Leaf

I took this picture when I was in San Diego last winter. I'm not sure what kind of tree it is but I thought it made a great picture against the blue sky.

OK, I know you are all busy checking out everyone's Ruby Tuesday but take the time to bookmark me and drop back to check out my blog. I am a retired Special Ed teacher who now spends most of her time on Sanibel Island, Florida which is a Sanctuary Island for wildlife. I volunteer for a wildlife hospital. I am also the proud grandma of 5 wonderful grandkids and brag about them often!! I also have a blog called Branches and Roots where I talk about genealogy and my ancestors. OK, enough about me. So if you really want to see red go to Work of the Poet.

I am not sure either. I do have fond memories of collecting those brown pods in San Diego, though.

I don't know what kind of tree that is either, but I picked up one of those pokey-thingies and brought it home when I was in CA last year!

Beautiful pic! Love the colours! Are those spikey things called conkers? No idea about the tree!

Could it be a sweet gum tree?

The leaves look like maples but I've never seen a maple with burrs like that. Perhaps my daughter who lives in SD could do some research?????

Great capture. It's a liquid amber, or sweet gum, tree. One of the few that gets red colors in the fall, in Southern California.

Beautiful!

I was going to say Sweet Gum Tree too, but everyone beat me to it. ;)

The leaf and balls belong to a Sweetgum Tree. There are lots of those in Mississippi. The amazing thing is that in Autunm the leaves do not all turn the same color. Their colors range from yellow to pale red, red, to burgundy and sometimes the same tree has more than one color!

Nice shot. I remember those burr-balls from when I was a kid on Long Island. Don't think I've seen them where I am now.
